The School Board voted unanimously today to join with four other school districts to form the Metro West Conference beginning Fall 2014. The Metro West Conference will align mid-size high schools from the Twin Cities west and south metro.

The conference currently includes seven high schools: Bloomington Jefferson, Bloomington Kennedy, Chanhassen, Chaska, Richfield, Robbinsdale Cooper and St. Louis Park. Applications are being accepted for additional high schools that wish to join the new conference. The Metro West Conference will offer a full complement of Minnesota State High School League-sponsored activities and athletics.

"Getting the right group of schools was important, we are excited to be with schools that share similar demographics and athletic, arts and activities programming," said St. Louis Park High School Athletic Director Andrew Ewald.

"The opportunity to partner with six other schools that share the same philosophy and desire to provide a comprehensive experience with competitive balance is really exciting." Location was a major factor in forming the new conference. "Currently in the North Suburban Conference, our average one-way trip is a little over 22 miles, with the Metro West Conference the average trip will be around 12 miles," said Ewald.

"This will make week night, away contests more manageable for our participants with homework and studying and hopefully increase the number of fans that travel to support our teams." "As a community, St. Louis Park is accustomed to high standards of offerings for its youth," continued Ewald. "With the formation of the Metro West Conference, our students will continue these experiences."
