October 14, 2013Minnesota's class 4A has just three teams with perfect records to date. It's a good time to see who they face in their last game of the regular season, and predict the outcomes of those games. The three AAAA teams with perfect records are all 7-0, and include: Hutchinson, South St. Paul, and Waseca. For their final game of the regular season Hutchinson faces 1-6 Mound-Westonka. Hutchinson averages 38 points per game in 4A and holds down the number four spot in that stat category on the Minnesota-Scores website. They hold their opponents to about 10 points per game on the average, and have been winning their games this season by scoring nearly four touchdowns per outing. I predict that Hutchinson with finish the season with an unblemished record following a win over Mound-Westonka. South St. Paul also has a perfect 7-0 record and they face arch-rival St. Thomas Academy for their last regular season game. St. Thomas has just two losses this year, with one early in the season to outstate Joliet Academy, and the other a 35-20 loss to Mahtomedi late in September. These are two teams that are going to go after each other. It's going to be a war. St. Thomas is a 5A team facing 4A South St. Paul at South St. Paul. Despite the different classes, these teams have a history. Last season the Packers lost to St. Thomas 34-0 in their final game of the season. The prior year, in the 2011-12 season, South St. Paul defeated St. Thomas 32-31 in an epic overtime battle. This is going to be a very entertaining game. It's time to go to Minnesota-scores trusty QRF for help in predicting the outcome of this game. This is going to be complicated by the fact that the teams are in two different classes. In 5A, St. Thomas is ranked 21 in class with a QRF score of 70.2 - while South St. Paul holds the top spot in the 4A ranking with a QRF score of 112. The home field advantage goes to St. Thomas for this Wednesday's evening game. I'm going to go out on a limb and pick South St. Paul to win this one in a scorcher. In closing, we look at the third 4A team with a perfect 7-0 record - Waseca. Waseca will face a visiting 4-3 Fridley team for their final game of the season. Having attended the Waseca vs. Blue Earth Area game earlier this season, I know that Waseca has a huge home field advantage. The stands, the sidelines, and every spot around the fence surrounding the field will be occupied with rabid Waseca fans. I'm picking Waseca to finish the season with a win at home and go 8-0 into sections.
