Carlos is right up there with rodney williams. But a name from the past that may have been better than all of them is Tracy Martin of Brooklyn Center highschool class of 1983 6'3 with a 42 inch verticle with 4.3 speed. Drafted into the nfl as a wide reciever. He was tearing down rims and breaking backboards before shaquille o'neal.

I think hands down it has to be Rodney Williams that kid can do some crzy things.

Speaking of free throw line, I recall Rodney doing a 360 after taking off from almost the free throw line during a Sabes Invite game. Or there was the times he just completely hurdled dudes like it was nothing.

Tyler Flack!

Best single dunk I have personally seen was MN Glory forward Mitch Gosson (Mankato East) taking off from the FreeThrow line in an All-Stargame in 2004. I'd seen pros do this, but never a HS guy. Mitch was awesome - the entire benches of both teams playing the game erupted.

Halvorsons?

My vote goes for Todd Bouman. His near FT line dunk vs. Staples-Motley in the state semi's in 1989 was the single best dunk I have witnessed.

For those who have the Breakdown book from 05-06 there is a sweet photo of Bauman dunking in a national dunk contest. It's in the feature story on him from that year.

BTW, Bauman is back with the Jags playing QB for another season.

Brooklyn Center used to always bring a nice squad to the Ranger Holiday Tournament, James Bunch Jr & Julian Greer were fan favorites with their dunks.

In my 100 percent biased opinion the answer is Sam Jacobson. Rodney Williams is the other obvious answer but nobody sold out gyms like Sam.

Posted on 8/22 8:46 AM | IP: Logged

Sam and Rodney are 1 and 1a. Todd Bouman could fly down at RTR. Justin Stommes at Rocori served up some big ones when I was coaching against him. Aj WIlson,Jonah Travis, and Trent Lockett has some huge ones in college right now.

Best current dunker in MN HS bball? I don't know.

Justin surprised a lot of people with his dunks. He started getting attention when he slammed one down hard at CP in the early Champlin Park tournament from the Glory. He really was amazing.

Posted on 8/22 3:54 PM | IP: Logged

The dunk Mike is reffering to by Stommes over Dennis Williamson had even the opposing team laughing.

Posted on 9/7 9:06 AM | IP: Logged

Dennis was not a delicate little thing either. He was big and tough.

Carlos Emory would give them all a run for there money and maybe even be the best.

Ideas please! I liked shooting Rodney Williams Jr. a lot. I used to sit down near the end of the court and we would exchange little nods and the next play or so I would have a highlight! I remember going to a Cooper vs. Armstrong game at Cooper and it was packed. I was just getting ready to shoot. I said hello to the Cop standing at the end of the court. I told him I felt a dunk coming on. I said I'd better get in position. I sat down and the next play Rodney slammed one. The Officer just looked at me in disbelief. That was a good laugh!

Cole Aldrich could pound them down as a sophomore. I remember him crushing them at the Witney Center in St.Cloud when I did my first interview with him.

Who ruled from way back in the day?
