FIRST TEAM OFFENSE
Quarterback
Joe Springer, Cretin-Derham Hall, sr.: Completed 67 percent of his passes (179 of 261) for 2,901 yards and 29 touchdowns with only three interceptions. Had 20 TDs last year.
Running backs
Chris Atkins, St. Paul Johnson, sr.: Led the Twin Cities in rushing with 1,847 yards and 18 TDs in the regular season to help the Governors win the St. Paul City Conference title.
Matt Dvorak, St. Croix Lutheran, jr.: Has great speed, strength and quickness. Led Crusaders back to the state tournament with 1,688 yards and 23 touchdowns.
Wide receivers
B.J. Otto, Hill-Murray, sr.: Rushed for 1,292 yards, had 684 receiving yards and scored 18 touchdowns. Also had a field goal and 15 extra points. Chipped in with three interceptions, too.
Michael Floyd, Cretin-Derham Hall, jr.: Caught 63 passes for 1,240 yards (19.0 average) and scored 16 touchdowns. Rushed 12 times for 246 yards and three TDs. His combination of speed and strength made ordinary plays into spectacular ones.
Tight end
Matt Veldman, Becker, sr.: The 6-foot-7 225-pounder had 49 receptions and 16 touchdowns. Also a force at defensive end. Many Division I schools are in pursuit.
Linemen
Dean Bauers, Duluth Central, sr.: The 6-2 248-pounder was an athletic force in leading the Trojans to 2,856 yards rushing. Also was the team's long snapper. On defense, had 50 solo tackles, three fumble recoveries and two interceptions.
Trey Davis, Farmington, sr.: The Tigers' top lineman in a running game that averaged 275 yards rushing a game the past two seasons and compiled a 20-2 record. Strong, athletic and fast. Three-year starter.
Scott Horvath, Eastview, sr.: The 6-3 270-pounder was a three-year starter who powered the Lightning to 265.75 yards a game. Averaged 12 knockdowns a game. Eastview coach Kelly Sherwin said what sets him apart from other linemen is his athleticism and quick feet.
Ryan Orton, Eden Prairie, sr.: The 6-4 280-pounder was driving force in Eden Prairie's dominant ground game that produced a Class AAAAA title. Strong and physical, has committed to play at Minnesota.
Ryan Wynn, Maple Grove, sr.: Minnesota recruit was the offensive lineman MVP of the Northwest Suburban Conference for a team that averaged 261 yards per game. Ran a 4.8-second 40-yard dash. Class valedictorian. Also a long snapper.
Kicker
Joe Stormont, Stillwater, sr.: Made 15 of 18 field goals and had a school-record streak of 45 consecutive extra-point kicks. Had a long field goal of 47 yards. Finished prep career making 62 of 64 extra-point attempts. A dominant force in the defensive secondary, too.
Kick returner/utility
Tony Kubes, New Prague, sr.: Versatile and productive, he nearly single-handedly knocked off Totino-Grace in the semifinals. Finished the season with 719 yards rushing and eight TDs, 588 yards receiving and six TDs, and was a productive punt and kick returner. Also had four interceptions.
SECOND TEAM OFFENSE
Quarterbacks
Marcus Brumm, Lakeville South, sr.: Playmaker helped power Cougars to runner-up in Class AAAAA.
Tim McManus, St. Thomas Academy, sr.: Passing and running threat was the catalyst in Cadets' second-place finish in Class AAAA.
Running backs
DeAngelo Brackins, International Falls, sr.: Rushed for 2,132 yards and scored 254 points. Had 50 points in a playoff game.
D.J. Winfield, Mountain Iron-Buhl, sr.: Averaged 12 yards a carry, scored 36 TDs, rushed for 1,530 yards.
Wide receivers
A.J. Barker, St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Academy, soph.: Had 59 receptions for 1,172 yards and eight TDs.
Elliot Herdina, Blooming Prairie, sr.: Averaged 20.6 yards a catch and had 17 TDs. Had 51 catches for 1,051 yards.
Tight end
Collin McGarry, Stillwater, sr.: Devastating blocker and pass-catching threat. Has committed to play at Minnesota.
Linemen
Chris Bunders, Osseo, OL, sr.: Strong and athletic, has committed to Minnesota.
Matt Manion, Totino-Grace, OL, sr.: A dominating run blocker, helped pave the Eagles' way to a Class AAAA title.
Ben Froehling, Farmington, OL, sr.: Outstanding blocker for the Tigers; strong at point of attack.
Jeff Gilbertson, Winona Cotter, OL, sr.: Quick, pulling lineman helped the Ramblers produce 2,000 yards rushing, 2,600 passing and state tournament berth.
Foley Schmidt, St. Thomas Academy, K, jr.: Had 11 consecutive touchbacks during the state tournament.
Noah Pauley, Duluth Central, KR, sr.: Averaged 42.2 yards a kickoff return.
FIRST TEAM DEFENSE
Linemen
Broderick Binns, Cretin-Derham Hall, sr.: Finished season with 68 tackles, nine sacks, two interceptions. Ranked No. 2 college prospect in the state by Rivals.com. Has orally committed to Iowa.
Anthony Jacobs, Northfield, sr.: No. 1-ranked prospect in the state, according to Rivals.com, and a Minnesota recruit. Dominated every offensive lineman assigned to block him. Played running back and gained 1,118 yards for section champion Raiders.
Willie Mobley, Eden Prairie, jr.: Was best defensive lineman in the Lake Conference. Made 16 tackles behind the line of scrimmage for state champion Eagles.
Matt Ulrich, Rushford-Peterson, sr.: Was one of the state's most mobile big men in football, able to go sideline to sideline in pursuit of a ball carrier. Made 32 solo tackles, and assisted on 67 others for Class A champion Trojans.
Linebackers
Billy Lawrence, St. Thomas Academy, sr.: Ended his senior season with 141 tackles (12 for losses), three interceptions, three caused fumbles and three recovered fumbles.
Sam Maresh, Champlin Park, jr.: Won a state wrestling championship at 215 pounds as a sophomore. Made 61 tackles in football this season, and was named the defensive MVP in the Northwest Suburban Conference.
Bryce McNaul, Eden Prairie, sr.: A Northwestern recruit (Rivals.com ranked him No. 10 among Minnesota's prospects), led the Eden Prairie defense in the Prep Bowl with three tackles for losses, and nine tackles in all, pushing his season total to 65.
Brady Soule, Lakeville South, sr.: "He's just a tough kid who does everything we ask of him," coach Larry Thompson said of Soule. That included making 72 tackles (10 for sacks) and intercepting three passes on defense. Was also one the Cougars' leading receivers, and their punter.
Defensive backs
Nick Andreas, Lakeville South, sr.: Considered by coach Larry Thompson as the best defensive back ever at Lakeville. Made 12 tackles in the state final and had 74 for the season. Intercepted four passes and scored three defensive touchdowns in 14 games for the Cougars.
Matt Griswold, Totino-Grace, sr.: Was the North Suburban Conference MVP during the regular season and Eagles' defensive MVP during the march to the Class AAAA championship. Made five tackles and broke up two passes in the semifinals. In the Prep Bowl victory over St. Thomas Academy, had six tackles and an interception, which he returned 37 yards.
Jake Harmon, Triton, sr.: Contributed five tackles, including one for a loss, to the Cobras' 70-21 victory over Luverne in the Class AA final and ran eight times for 115 yards and three touchdowns. Finished season with more than 150 tackles.
Punter
Sean Matti, Roseville, sr.: Did everything for Roseville, including punting (35.6 yards per kick). Also kicked extra points, kicked off, played running back and was the Suburban East Conference defensive player of the year as a linebacker. Made 54 solo tackles, assisted on 94, and had nine sacks.
Punt returns
Blake Sorensen, Eden Prairie, sr.: His 19-yard return of the first punt of the game set the tone for the Eagles' 49-7 victory over St. Cloud Tech in the state semifinals. Will be at Wisconsin next year and could have been first-team all-state as a linebacker, too. Made 72 tackles this season (seven in the Prep Bowl), and intercepted four passes.
SECOND TEAM DEFENSE
Linemen
Griffin Hayes, St. Thomas Academy, sr.: Made 89 tackles (13 for losses) and two fumble recoveries, and caused four fumbles.
Jordan Waiwaiole, Spring Lake Park, jr.: Had 44 solo tackles, including 11 sacks.
Dirk Wilkins, Lakeville South, sr.: Made the South defensive line almost impenetrable.
Eric Zingleman, Andover, sr.: Most valuable defensive lineman in the Northwest Suburban made 58 tackles, eight for losses.
Linebackers
Tony Danna, Hill-Murray, sr.: Made 134 tackles, 57 unassisted and 10 for losses.
Steve Herold, Sartell, sr.: Concluded his career with 240 tackles and 25 sacks. Academic all-state.
Billy Morgan, Rosemount, jr.: Top linebacker for state semifinalist Rosemount, and the best LB Irish coach Jeff Erdmann ever has had.
Defensive backs
Cody Hendrickson, Cromwell, jr.: Was a busy defender, making 130 tackles, eight interceptions and four fumble recoveries. Also accounted for more than 1,500 yards passing and 1,000 rushing as a quarterback.
Takarai Hill, Mpls. South, sr.: Had 48 tackles and 15 interceptions. Had 35 receptions for 812 yards and seven touchdowns.
Luke Knutson, Bagley, sr.: His senior season tally: 35 solo tackles, 40 assists, 12 sacks and four interceptions. Ended career with 32 sacks.
Taylor Witt, Morris, sr.: In addition to playing cornerback, threw for 3,532 yards as the Tigers' quarterback.
Punter
Andrew Tewes, Mayer Lutheran, sr.: Had one 75-yard punt, five over 50 and averaged 37.4 yards for all 44, 12 of which stopped inside the opponent's 20.
Punt returner
Kurt Schlangen, Albany, jr.: Averaged 17.6 yards for 12 punt returns and 38.8 for nine kickoff returns. Averaged 6.9 yards a carry as a running back.
