Apple Valley defeated Brainerd 81-67 in the opening round of Class AAAA basketball at the Minnesota State Tournament
Apple Valley spread out the scoring with four players in double digits. Dennis Austin - 19, Bertrum Brock - 13, Tyus Jones - 19 and Dustin Fronk with 15. Congrats to Brock for performing so well as a Freshman.

Brainerd had just two players with double digits: Marcus Comstock with 17 and Chris Bowman with 12.
Apple Valley took advantage of turnovers, out scoring Brainerd 27-17 in that category. AV was also very strong in 2nd effort points at 16-7 over Brainerd.
Apple Valley came into the game leading AAAA in wins, Brainerd held the number two spot. It was tough to see the top two teams meet in the opening round. Apple Valley play tomorrow at 6:00 pm in the Target Center.
