Border Battle Game Blog: Princeton vs Waupun

PREGAME BLOG
There is a nice share of Wisconsin Badger fans in here watching the game but not near the crowd they would have had had the Badgers not been playing at three o'clock today…Jared Berggren is the number one player in the state of Minnesota prospect wise while Ryan Rasmussen is ranked ninth in Wisconsin for Waupun and teammate Aris Wurtz is listed as 44th in the state…

FIRST QUARTER
Waupun scores 11 points in less then a minute to open the game…..Future UMD player Ryan Rasmussen has already scored 16 points in five minutes of play hitting four three-pointers. The lefty put on a show to start the contest hitting two deep jumpers in his team's first four offensive trips down the floor…Waupun holds a 21-11 lead already early in this game and they have one of the most animated coaches I've seen in awhile…Princeton needs its role players to hit shots and they have done that here late in the first quarter as the buzzer sounds with a 23-17 score, Waupun ahead…
Jared Berggren has scored once on the block with a nice athletic move for a man his size. Then he's hit two shots in the lane and dominated the rebounds…He's by far the biggest man on the floor and Princeton is playing a zone with him in the middle…
SECOND QUARTER
Berggren caught high, spun middle and baby-hooked a shot in while being fouled. Nice move by the big man…Rasmussen hits a fifth three-pointer and this kid is on fire as his team is up 31-23…Berggren comes back down and scores on the block again with a half-hook…Berggren is being guarded by a player seven inches shorter then he is…Jared has put buckets in on the last four possessions of the game from that same bottom left corner block. Waupun is doubling Jared but it's coming after Berggren is putting the ball on the floor which is to late as Jared has to much size with a soft touch…Wurtz is out here making three pointers now at the same rate Rasmussen is…
Rasmussen has 25 points in this game already...Berggren has scored on about five of the last six possessions but the Warriors still hold a 39-27 lead. The Warriors are just getting to many open looks against this Princeton zone…Jared has now scored on six of the last seven possessions from that same block but it does no good if they keep letting Waupun get open looks against the zone. Wurtz hits again and now its 45-29 at the half…Jared has scored 16 points already but it seems pointless when you let shooters like this get such open looks. Rasmussen and Wurtz have combined for nine three-pointers already and 43 of the 45 points…
THIRD QUARTER
Jared is not just being doubled right now, they are guarding him with two guys and leaving one Princeton player wide open…And that wide open player has missed three three-pointers while everybody in my area is screaming dribble as there is nobody even close to him…Rasmussen first made his fifth three-pointer and then is making some incredible plays on the break including an acrobatic lay-in…How on earth is Wurtz wide open? He makes his fourth three-pointer and its 57-31 with Waupun up huge…
Jared has two guys on him and a third joins in when Jared comes to his area. Waupun is just giving Princeton all the room they want to shoot but Princeton cannot make a shot…The score at the quarter is 66-36…
FOURTH QUARTER
Waupun continued to make three-pointers possession after possession. They also continued to guard Jared with two guys and then a third when he touched the ball so the Tigers conceded the victory early in the fourth quarter and put in the bench…Final score were 81-41
POSTGAME BLOG
The Players of the Game were obviously Wurtz and Rasmussen. Wurtz hit seven three-pointers and Rasmussen nailed six for the game. As a team Waupun made 16 three-pointers…Rasmussen had a game high 30 points while Wurtz scored 29. Berggren scored 16 in the first half but was barely able to touch the ball in the second half so his total stayed at 16 points…
