Chet Holmgren accepts National Gatorade Player of the year with parents and grandmother present.

The national Gatorade Player of The Year Chet Holmgren was surprised by the presenter who was none other than a good friend and former Gonzaga, Grassroots Sizzle superstar Jalen Suggs. Holmgren is the first Minnesota player to win the honor in its 36-year history.

The Gatorade Player of the Year award recognizes outstanding athletic excellence, and high standards of academic achievement, and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the court. Holmgren was elated to receive the award especially after being presented by Jalen Suggs but wants others to know his goal is focusing on exemplary character off the court. His desire is to make the world a better place starting with helping those in need.

In the community from where he grew up playing basketball, there is a saying, "Don't talk about it, be about it!" meaning actions speak louder than words. Holmgren is showing he is about it by using his popularity and platform as the number one player in the country to make changes by participating in philanthropic endeavors such as toy and coat drives for those in need.

Holmgren's latest is a clothing drive. He teamed up with Signature Cuts to give back to the less fortunate. The event takes place this Sunday from 1-6 PM. They are asking to please bring any lightly used or new sportswear/gear and or winter clothing. Location: 1595 MN-36 Roseville MN. Holmgren is about it!

Holmgren plans to continue his philanthropy throughout the season and wants those interested in making a change to please follow him on twitter@ChetHolmgren and Instagram@ChetHolmgren for notification of future endeavors. Holmgren is mature well beyond his years and gets it!
