Grassroots Sizzle AAU basketball continues to flourish in and outside of Minnesota. Its tough and gritty style of play has garnered the admiration of basketball fanatics. They jumped on the scene with blowout wins on National TV against Bronny James' Sierra Canyon, Mikey Williams, Emoni Bates, and a host of others. Not to mention the Sizzle program has produced two Lottery picks back to back in Jalen Suggs and Chet Holmgren! That is an amazing feat for an AAU program from Minnesota!
The Sizzle reputation is the reason for St. Louis Missouri's 6'4" SG Jervon Ford to travel to Minnesota for the summers. The Fort Zumwalt North player is considered one of the top shooting guards in Missouri. We caught up with Ford while on the mend from a wrist injury suffered in the first event of the season.
We wanted Jervon to reiterate his connection with Grassroots Sizzle since he was from St. Louis Missouri.
"I would always go to Minnesota during the summer and stay there for a while so when I heard about Sizzle and watched them on ESPN I knew I had to play for that program. I knew I had to make it out and show everyone what I can do."
The Grassroots Sizzle director had high praise for Ford. We asked Jervon what was one of the most important takeaways of playing with Grassroots.
"Playing with Sizzle prepared me in a tremendous way, the toughness and grit they played with were very contagious! The atmosphere was very similar to what I was used to playing in St. Louis where you had to play hard all the time! It's all about winning and not only creating good players but good people on and off the court as well. The coaches at Sizzle put me in the best position to win and I think that gave me a sense of urgency and taught me how to lead a team the right way."
When we watched Ford it wasn't hard to see that he was capable of getting buckets in bunches! We asked him what was the best part of his game.
"I would say shooting the ball is one of my strongest points to my game, by getting to my spots, setting up, and moving off the ball, so I can get the shots I need to take for my team. I also think creating shots for not only myself but my teammates as well is a very important piece of my game too."
With college programs taking interest Ford was able to elaborate on the types of schools he would be interested in.
"What I'm looking for in a school is a place that has a winning mentality with the ambition to win. I'm also looking for a team that is united and is a family-like environment."
Jervon Ford is a multi-talented student-athlete with a 3.5 GPA that appreciates education and believes it correlates with basketball.
"Doing well in class and being successful allows you to be successful on the court"
