Krych asks for release

Six-foot-8 St. Cloud Apollo center Simon Krych asked for his scholarship release from the University of Mary last week after Head Coach Randall Herbst left the school to for job at Nebraska-Omaha who is moving to the division one level. Krych averaged 14.8 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game shooting 61 percent from the floor.
"It's one of the hardest decisions I've had to make so far," Simon said to the St. Cloud Times today. "I feel bad about doing that to Coach Jevin Budde and this isn't a reflection on him in any way.

"There's no disrespect for Coach Budde. He's a great guy who has helped me a lot. But it's my dream to play Division I and this is one of the risks I have to take and I'm willing to do it."
At this point Krych hasn't received his release but it's expected that numerous division one schools needing a big will immediately become interested.
"I haven't contacted anyone because I haven't got my release finalized," Krych said Monday.
Before Simon signed his letter of intent to play at the University of Mary there were several division one schools that showed interest.
Simon's high school teammate Blake Maslonkowski will remain with the Mary Marauders.
