Sibley forward makes decision

Henry Sibley small forward Chris Halvorsen is the latest Minnesotan to commit to a division one program. After taking three official trips the 6-foot-8 wing decided to close his recruitment and make a final decision. Halvorsen was amongst the leaders on a Warrior team that took second place in state last year.
Halvorsen took official visits to Yale, Lehigh, and Valpo this month and was mulling over trips to North Dakota State and UW-Milwaukee. The Sibley open gyms had been flooded the past weeks with coaches from the Bison and the Panthers as they were working to get Chris to their campuses. However, Halvorsen decided to end his recruitment this weekend.

"I just committed to Valpo and coach Homer Drew," Halvorsen explained. "I really got along with the coaches and the players and the situation felt good. I made the decision after talking things over with my family and my brother."
Halvorsen joins Urule Igbavboa and Cory Johnson as Minnesota players at Valpo and Chris is happy to have this decision behind him.
"It's nice to have made this decision," Chris said. "It's like a big weight of my chest. Playing for coach Drew is going to be great because he's one of the better coaches in division one basketball. It's nice to know that he's going to be staying around Valpo for a long time and he's focused on bringing Valpo back to the NCAA Tournament. And having the Minnesota guys there also made me feel more comfortable at the school."
Halvorsen visited Valpo the first weekend of September and the trip was a success in his eyes.
"I played with the guys when I was down there and got a nice trip of the campus," Halvorsen said. "We at Gaucho's Brazilian Steakhouse and the food was incredible." Halvorsen was also impressed with the academics of Valparaiso and he's a student with a 3.8 grade point average and a 30 on his ACT.
