Wolters makes the call

St Cloud Tech's Nate Wolters made his college decision tonight calling the school of his choice with his final decision. Nate had taken a pair of visits this month and had schools fighting over his signature but in the end Wolters has decided to go division one after all. Nate took Tech to third place in state the last two seasons.
Wolters blew up last summer playing with the Minnesota Comets and division ones and twos were all over his game. After considering several division one schools last summer and fall he had narrowed his choices to South Dakota State, Augustana, Minnesota State-Mankato, and St. Cloud State. Unable to make a decision by the end of the early signing period Wolters opened things back up and played through his senior year.

Nate led Tech to a 31-1 record over the course of the 2008-09 season with the team's only loss coming to Hopkins. At that point several division one schools had begun showing more interest including Colorado State, Santa Clara, North Dakota State, and others. Then the 17 points, five assists, three boards, and two steals in a slowed down game against Hopkins convinced several teams to offer including Mountain West school Colorado State. Santa Clara and Cal Poly also wanted to sign Wolters but he wasn't interested in playing in California. Iowa also showed a little bit of interest.
After the state tournament Wolters officially visited Colorado State and North Dakota State and after the NDSU visit a decision was expected. However, it didn't come right away and Augustana and South Dakota State jumped back into the picture.
In the end Wolters decided to make the call tonight and the coach that received the good word of his commitment was coach Scott Nagy of South Dakota State. Tomorrow Nate is expected to officially sign with SDSU but his commitment to the Jackrabbits came this evening.
