Yahnke scores point 1,000 in romp

Delano clobbered Hastings Saturday winning their 13th game of the season. In that contest Texas Pan American signed Mike Yahnke produced 31 points and seven rebounds while also eclipsing the 1,000-point barrier.
"We had our best offensive half of the season in the second half versus Hastings," said Tiger coach Terry Techam about Delano's 70 to 40 road win. "We were 15 for 21 from the field and 13 for 15 from the free throw line in the second half."

In the first half Mike Yahnke controlled the action scoring 18 of his team's 25 points. He needed 30 points going into the contest to go over 1,000 for his career and Mike netted the career tying best of 31 points.
"He got his 1,000th point with about four minutes left in the game from the free throw line," said Techam. "Mike is one of only four players who have scored 1,000 points in Delano history."
The Tigers are young in the backcourt starting freshmen Toby Hanson (7.6 points, 2.1 assists per game) and sophomore Zach Checkal (9.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 1.6 steals a game). The two players are talented but inexperienced so Yahnke sees double and triple teams every night.
Yahnke is averaging 20.3 points and 10.8 rebounds a contest.
